Breve historia

Ventura Global es una empresa que ofrece el servicio de renting para facilitar el uso de equipos muy costosos y especializados para laboratorios. Este servicio no existía hasta que esta empresa, fundada por el Dr. Gianni Fior, comenzó a hacerlo. Cromatógrafos y otros aparatos muy especializados requerían ser comprados por farmacéuticas, hospitales, universidades, etc., para poder ser usados. No solo el costo frontal, sino la desventaja de, en pocos años, tener que vender o descartar los equipos para poder actualizarse tecnológicamente; eso ya no tiene por qué ser así gracias a Ventura Global.

Desafío técnico

Dado que Ventura Global es una empresa internacional con sede en Italia y operaciones en muchos países, el desafío estuvo en configurar el chatbot de tal manera que interactúe desde el comienzo en 3 idiomas: Inglés, Italiano y Español. El agente de IA no solo fue inicialmente entrenado para que use términos especializados en cada uno de los idiomas; sino también para que responda con información comercial válida para cualquier cliente. El proyecto está apenas culminado y está por verse el impacto positivo en apoyo del excelente equipo humano del Dr. Fior.

Logros

Las respuestas iniciales del agente IA en los distintos idiomas han resultado acertadas en un alto porcentaje. El agente va a seguir siendo adiestrado por quienes son responsables de monitorearlo. Esperamos que cada día sea un mejor complemento al sitio web de Ventura Global.

Brief history

Ventura Global is a company that offers leasing services to facilitate the use of very expensive and specialized laboratory equipment. This service didn't exist until this company, founded by Dr. Gianni Fior, began offering it. Chromatographs and other highly specialized equipment had to be purchased by pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, universities, etc., in order to be used. Not only the upfront cost, but also the disadvantage of having to sell or discard the equipment in just a few years to upgrade technologically; that no longer has to be the case thanks to Ventura Global.

Technical challenge

Since Ventura Global is an international company headquartered in Italy with operations in many countries, the challenge was to configure the chatbot to interact from the start in three languages: English, Italian, and Spanish. The AI ​​agent was initially trained not only to use specialized terms in each language, but also to respond with commercial information valid for any client. The project is barely completed, and the positive impact it will have on Dr. Fior's excellent team remains to be seen.

Achievements

The AI ​​agent's initial responses in different languages ​​have been highly accurate. The agent will continue to be trained by those responsible for monitoring it. We hope it will become a better complement to the Ventura Global website every day.

Breve historia

A través de uno de nuestros asociados, volvemos a atender a uno de nuestros clientes más queridos, la Fundación Empresas Polar. Luego de demostrarles con un demo cómo funcionaría el chatbot integrable a su sitio web, la fundación decidió incorporar por primera vez un agente basado en Inteligencia Artificial para que sea parte del equipo que responde las consultas sobre libros y otras publicaciones disponibles en https://bibliofep.fundacionempresaspolar.org/.

Desafío técnico

Más que técnico, el desafío ha estado más centrado en la capacidad que debe tener el agente para responder a una amplia diversidad de temas. Las consultas se extienden mucho más allá de temas editoriales, porque la fundación atiende un amplio espectro de audiencias relacionadas con actividades de apoyo social, especialmente en zonas donde operan las empresas del importante Grupo Polar. El proyecto está apenas culminado y están por verse los resultados que se obtendrán.

Logros

Las pruebas iniciales del agente indican que puede multiplicar la capacidad de la fundación para atender consultas variadas de las distintas audiencias. Ya el chatbot está instalado. Esperamos que el público lo adopte y el equipo humano se responsabilice por el monitoreoo del agente con miras a hacer ajustes que lo lleven a aprender continuamente para hacer su trabajo cada vez mejor.

Brief History

Through one of our partners, we are once again serving one of our most valued clients, the Empresas Polar Foundation. After demonstrating with a demo how the chatbot integrated into their website would work, the foundation decided to incorporate, for the first time, an agent based on Artificial Intelligence to be part of the team that answers questions about books and other publications available at https://bibliofep.fundacionempresaspolar.org/.

Technical Challenge

More than a technical challenge, the challenge has been more focused on the agent's ability to respond to a wide variety of topics. The questions extend far beyond publishing issues, because the foundation serves a wide range of audiences related with social support activities, especially in areas where companies from the important Polar Group operate. The project is barely finished, and the results remain to be seen.

Achievements

Initial testing of the agent indicates that it can multiply the foundation's capacity to respond to a variety of queries from different audiences. The chatbot is already installed. We hope the public will adopt it and the human team will take responsibility for monitoring the agent with a view to making adjustments that will allow it to continuously learn and do its job better.

Breve historia

Dar el sí a un cliente presentándole una propuesta y luego, una vez aprobada, decirle que conviene modificar el cómo se ejecutará, es algo que debe evitarse. Eso nos pasó con Formación Smart, una empresa de cursos online dirigidos esencialmente a recursos humanos corporativos, para que los trabajadores mejoren sus capacidades. Este cliente quiere que los contactos hechos por prospectos de clientes sean atendidos oportunamente y con la información adecuada. El proyecto está en desarrollo y son interesantes los resultados parciales obtenidos hasta ahora.

Desafío técnico

La razón para revisar la propuesta y entregar una ajustada, obedeció a que lo inicialmente planteado que se desarrollaría con un código original, descubrimos que podía hacerse configurando e integrando un chatbox agentificado. Este cambio tuvo como consecuencia una reducción sustancial en costos y tiempos de desarrollo.

Logros

Las pruebas del agente son alentadoras. Ya el chatbot está embebido en el sitio web e integrado con WhatsApp. Todavía está pendiente integrarlo a Gmail e Instagram. Esperemos que las ventas de cursos en línea comiencen a crecer pronto gracias a la mejora sustancial que esta agentificación brinda.

Brief history

Giving a client the thumbs-up by presenting a proposal and then, once approved, telling them that the execution process needs to be modified is something to be avoided. This is what happened to us with Formación Smart, a company that offers online courses primarily aimed at corporate human resources, helping employees improve their skills. This client wants contacts made by potential clients to be addressed in a timely manner and with adequate information. The project is under development, and the partial results obtained so far are interesting.

Technical challenge

The reason for revising the proposal and submitting a revised one was that we initially planned to develop it with original code, but we discovered it could be done by configuring and integrating an agent-based chatbox. This change resulted in a substantial reduction in development costs and time.

Achievements

The agent's tests are encouraging. The chatbot is already embedded in the website and integrated with WhatsApp. It still needs to be integrated with Gmail and Instagram. We hope that online course sales will begin to grow soon thanks to the substantial improvement this agentification brings.

Breve historia

Ir al odontólogo y observar que, en los tiempos en que estamos, el profesional usa papel y lápiz para escribir la historia, lo observado, los procedimientos y las indicaciones del paciente, es sorprendente. Buscamos la forma de desarrollar, de manera muy económica y utilizando la IA pare generar código, un sistema de historias odontológicas que le facilite el trabajo al profesional y, de paso, el paciente también se beneficie al prestarle un mejor servicio.

Desafío técnico

Dadas las características particulares del primer cliente con que trabajamos, decidimos aplicar lo que se conoce recientemente como vibe-coding (ir iterando sobre el código, modificándolo de acuerdo con comentarios y nuevas ideas que surgen al calor del desarrollo). Más que un desafío, ha sido un placer poder flexibilizar el desarrollo de software de esta manera, gracias a la IA.

Logros

El sistema está todavía en fase piloto. Es un MVP (Minimum Viable Product) que podrá pasar a ser un SAAS (Software As A Service) para atender a muchos consultorios desde la nube.

Brief history

Going to the dentist and observing that, in these times, the professional uses paper and pencil to write the patient's history, observations, procedures, and instructions, is surprising. We sought to develop, in a very economical way and using AI to generate code, a dental records system that facilitates the professional's work and, in turn, benefits the patient by providing better service.

Technical challenge

Given the particular characteristics of our first client, we decided to apply what is recently known as vibe-coding (iterating on the code, modifying it according to comments and new ideas that arise during development). More than a challenge, it has been a pleasure to be able to make software development more flexible in this way, thanks to AI.

Achievements

The system is still in the pilot phase. It is an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that could become a SAAS (Software As A Service) to serve many offices from the cloud.

NOTE: On October 3, 2025, we received the good news that UCAB has been officially authorized to open this program.

Breve historia

Recibir una solicitud para Preparar en 3 meses el documento de una nueva carrera universitaria en la UCAB, habrá tenido una respuesta negativa, si la hubiésemos recibido antes de existir los LLMs. Afortunadamente, fue en 2023 y nos atrevimos a asumir el reto. Los modelos de lenguaje de la IA son herramientas increíblemente útiles si se usan con criterio y flexibilidad. Hemos decidido que Umbusk se dedique a ese territorio profesional donde se encuentran el diseño y la IA. Los LLM son como asistentes, como miembros de nuestro equipo de trabajo, y permiten a nuestros clientes hacer cosas (acompañados por nosotros) que nunca antes habrían podido hacer con la calidad, tiempo y costos que son ahora posibles.

Desafío técnico

El reto está en coordinar con un nuevo asistente de nuestro equipo. Un asistente no humano que parece entender muchísimo lo que se espera que haga. Conversar con modelos de IA es una destreza que se desarrolla con la experiencia de hacerlo. Es como montar bicicleta: se aprende haciéndolo, no leyendo sobre lo que hay que hacer.

Logros

El documento fue revisado, se le hicieron ajustes y se entregó a las autoridades del gobierno responsables de la aprobación de un proyecto como ese.

Brief history

Receiving a request to prepare the documentation for a new university degree at UCAB in 3 months would have received a negative response if we had received it before LLMs existed. Fortunately, it was in 2023 and we dared to take on the challenge. AI language models are incredibly useful tools when used with judgment and flexibility. We have decided that Umbusk should focus on that professional territory where design and AI meet. LLMs are like assistants, like members of our work team, and allow our clients to do things (accompanied by us) that they would never have been able to do before with the quality, time, and costs that are now possible.

Technical challenge

The challenge lies in coordinating with a new assistant on our team. A non-human assistant that seems to understand very well what is expected of it. Conversing with AI models is a skill that develops with experience. It's like riding a bicycle: you learn by doing it, not by reading about what to do.

Achievements

The document was reviewed, adjustments were made, and it was delivered to the government authorities responsible for approving such a project.

Breve historia

Poder servir de apoyo tecnológico a la Fundación Empresas Polar ha sido todo un privilegio. Contribuir con su noble misión de respaldar el desarrollo de Venezuela en muchas áreas y, en especial, en la de hacer que sus publicaciones estén disponibles en Internet para el público, nos ha llenado de orgullo. Bibliofep es la plataforma desarrollada sobre Umbraco donde están accesibles sus publicaciones en versión PDF (la mayoría); acompañada por versiones digitales del Diccionario de Historia de Venezuela (DHV), Historia de Venezuela en Imágenes y el diario de Sir Robert Ker Porter.

Desafío técnico

El principal desafío fue digitalizar el DHV. Esta obra de referencia importantísima, no solo por su contenido de más de 4.600 entradas elaboradas por cientos de especialistas de alto nivel, en diversos temas, agrupadas en 4 tomos; sino también que ha sido una obra premiada en Alemania como libro más bello del mundo, solo contaba con la digitalización de las planchas de impresión en pliegos. Escanear con OCR y guardar esos contenidos en una base de datos, fue un trabajo retador y no menos interesante.

Logros

En Internet, el primer puesto de la lista de publicaciones más consultadas de la Fundación sigue siendo el del DHV, tal como ocurre con sus versiones impresas. La 2da edición digital está casi lista y a punto de lanzarse.

Brief history

Being able to provide technological support to the Empresas Polar Foundation has been a privilege. Contributing to its noble mission of supporting Venezuela's development in many areas, and especially in making its publications available on the Internet to the public, has filled us with pride. Bibliofep is the platform developed on Umbraco where their publications are accessible in PDF version (mostly); accompanied by digital versions of the Dictionary of Venezuelan History (DHV), History of Venezuela in Images, and Sir Robert Ker Porter's diary.

Technical challenge

The main challenge was digitizing the DHV. This extremely important reference work, not only for its content of more than 4,600 entries prepared by hundreds of high-level specialists on various topics, grouped in 4 volumes; but also having been awarded in Germany as the world's most beautiful book, only had the digitization of printing plates in sheets. Scanning with OCR and storing that content in a database was a challenging and no less interesting task.

Achievements

On the Internet, the first place in the Foundation's most consulted publications list continues to be the DHV, just as it happens with its printed versions. The 2nd digital edition is almost ready and about to be launched.

Breve historia

Ganar por concurso el website de la CAF con una propuesta avanzada, fue el momento culminante de Arachnida. Nos permitió la evolución de WALK a iKels(*), un CMS desarrollado experimentalmente también por nosotros, que ofrecía la posibilidad de manejar el frontend con "fractales" de columnas (módulos de columnas dentro de columnas). Unos 15 años más adelante, con el surgimiento de CMS más robustos, el cliente llamó de nuevo a concurso y ya no como Arachnida, sino iKels como empresa, hizo una propuesta basada en Umbraco, ganando de nuevo. (*) "Kels" significa columna según el diccionario American Heritage de Raíces Indo-Europeas.

Desafío técnico

"Soltar" a iKels y migrar a Umbraco fue un desafío más moral que técnico. El cliente tenía razón en querer sustituir una plataforma demasiado "local" para pasar a tener una más robusta y con posibilidad de reemplazar el desarrollo web, en caso de que iKels como empresa pequeña dejara de operar. Hubo que "despedir" a iKels el CMS y comenzar de nuevo con otra plataforma.

Logros

De nuevo, nuestra propuesta fue la mejor e iKels, como empresa, utilizando Umbraco fue seleccionada y continúa actualmente siendo el proveedor de CAF.

Brief history

Winning the CAF website competition with an advanced proposal was Arachnida's crowning moment. It allowed us to evolve from WALK to iKels(*), a CMS also experimentally developed by us, which offered the possibility of managing the frontend with column "fractals" (column modules within columns). About 15 years later, with the emergence of more robust CMS platforms, the client called for bids again and no longer as Arachnida, but iKels as a company, made a proposal based on Umbraco, winning again. (*) "Kels" means column according to the American Heritage Dictionary of Indo-European Roots.

Technical challenge

"Letting go" of iKels and migrating to Umbraco was more of a moral challenge than a technical one. The client was right in wanting to replace a platform that was too "local" for a more robust one with the possibility of replacing web development, in case iKels as a small company ceased to operate. We had to "fire" iKels the CMS and start over with another platform.

Achievements

Once again, our proposal was the best and iKels, as a company, using Umbraco was selected and continues to be CAF's provider today.

2006 Movilística

Integración SMS-Web para crear una forma de participación popular en un diario impreso. SMS-Web integration to create a form of popular participation in a printed newspaper.

Breve historia

Explorar el campo del mercadeo y la comunicación basada en SMS e email, llevó a Movilística a desarrollar un proyecto innovador para la Cadena Capriles y su diario "Últimas Noticias" el de mayor circulación en Venezuela para la época. Desarrollamos, contratando un número corto de SMS, un servicio para que los lectores de UN, usando sus celulares, enviaran al periódico alguna denuncia o información general que, si era seleccionada por la dirección editorial, pasaba a ser impresa en la sección "Date Ahí" del periódico.

Desafío técnico

Comenzar a usar una especie de API para leer los mensajes de SMS en el servidor del proveedor del número corto y hacer que apareciera en el backend que se desarrolló para Últimas Noticias, fue un reto técnico que nos obligó a salir un poco de la "zona de confort" de la web.

Logros

La cantidad de páginas impresas dedicadas a los SMS de "Date Ahí" fue creciendo, pero no podían dedicar cada edición del periódico a solo ese contenido. Muchos lectores comenzaron a protestar porque sus mensajes no aparecían. Paradójicamente, el éxito estuvo asociado a la eventual suspensión del servicio porque llegaban demasiados mensajes.

Brief history

Exploring the field of SMS and email-based marketing and communication led Movilística to develop an innovative project for Cadena Capriles and its newspaper "Últimas Noticias," which had the largest circulation in Venezuela at the time. We developed, by contracting a short SMS number, a service for UN readers to use their cell phones to send the newspaper any complaints or general information that, if selected by the editorial board, would be printed in the "Date Ahí" section of the newspaper.

Technical challenge

Starting to use a kind of API to read SMS messages on the short number provider's server and making them appear in the backend developed for Últimas Noticias was a technical challenge that forced us to step out of the web's "comfort zone" a bit.

Achievements

The number of printed pages dedicated to "Date Ahí" SMS grew, but they couldn't dedicate each edition of the newspaper to just that content. Many readers began to protest because their messages didn't appear. Paradoxically, the success was associated with the eventual suspension of the service because too many messages were arriving.

Portal corporativo para una de las petroleras más importantes, cuando las empresas apenas descubrían el potencial de Internet. Corporate portal for one of the most important oil companies, when companies were just discovering the potential of the Internet.

Breve historia

Atender una empresa como British Petroleum fue un reto muy interesante. Sentíamos que estábamos al nivel de desarrolladores de primer mundo. Tanto, que nos atrevimos a plantear un sitio de páginas dinámicas administrables. A ese CMS (todavía no se llamaban así) lo bautizamos "WALK" (Web Administration Local Kit). Creamos un backend para que los responsables de contenido actualizaran directamente los websites. Fuimos muy felices.

Desafío técnico

WALK requirió trabajar con base de datos y una arquitectura de front y back ends. El sitio además tenía versiones en inglés y español.

Logros

El cliente nos pidió que, a través de la intranet (páginas que requerían login que inicialmente fueron solo para el backend), desarrolláramos lo que hoy se llamaría una web app para manejar pedidos de gasolina que hacían las estaciones de servicio, incluyendo el registro de los pagos. Eso se logró implantar en una primera etapa. Luego las políticas de PDVSA limitaron y, finalmente, eliminaron la comercialización de gasolina hecha por empresas privadas nacionales y extranjeras.

Brief history

Serving a company like British Petroleum was a very interesting challenge. We felt we were at the level of first-world developers. So much so that we dared to propose a site with manageable dynamic pages. We baptized that CMS (they weren't called that yet) "WALK" (Web Administration Local Kit). We created a backend so that content managers could directly update the websites. We were very happy.

Technical challenge

WALK required working with databases and a front and back end architecture. The site also had versions in English and Spanish.

Achievements

The client asked us to develop, through the intranet (pages that required login that were initially only for the backend), what today would be called a web app to manage gasoline orders made by service stations, including payment registration. This was successfully implemented in a first stage. Later, PDVSA policies limited and eventually eliminated gasoline commercialization by national and foreign private companies.

Uno de los primeros museos online de Venezuela, pionero en llevar el arte a Internet cuando pocos entendían qué era la web. One of Venezuela's first online museums, a pioneer in bringing art to the Internet when few understood what the web was.

Breve historia

Tener a Sofía Imber como cliente fue un desafío, especialmente en un área de trabajo con pocas referencias como era la web en sus inicios. El HTML era un poco limitado para poder lograr un diseño elegante. Sofía dijo un día "¿Pero qué es esto tan feo?" y le respondimos: "Es el sitio web de uno de los pocos museos del mundo que son pioneros en Internet."

Desafío técnico

El diseño gráfico era difícil de implementar en aquellos años. Todas las páginas se veían muy rígidas, muy ingenieriles. Eso fue cambiando con el tiempo.

Logros

No había métricas muy claras en esa época tan temprana de Internet. Solo el tener una página en línea era considerado un logro importante.

Brief history

Having Sofía Imber as a client was a challenge, especially in a work area with few references like the web in its early days. HTML was somewhat limited for achieving an elegant design. Sofía said one day "But what is this ugly thing?" and we responded: "It's the website of one of the few museums in the world that are pioneers on the Internet."

Technical challenge

Graphic design was difficult to implement in those years. All pages looked very rigid, very engineering-like. That changed over time.

Achievements

There were no very clear metrics in that early era of the Internet. Just having a page online was considered an important achievement.
